Rosé Strawberries: Are They Worth Buying?

I was walking through Whole Foods when a light pink strawberry caught my eye. Despite being skeptical of how they created the color, I picked up the strawberry pack anyways.

Fascinated by this new breed of berries, I washed it right when I got home. When you bite into the berry, you are greeted by a bit of a floral taste and a taste sweeter than regular strawberries. The inside of the strawberry is almost white. I would definitely choose the rosé strawberries over normal strawberries.

The Rosé Berries are light pink and are meant to have a “smooth texture and a sweet, peachy flavor",” According to Driscoll; the company that created the strawberries. The strawberries were developed through non-GMO breeding methods and produced by Driscoll company of independent grower for many years.

Sadly, the berries are available only through September but are accompanied by Rosé Raspberries. The Driscoll website has created a list of pairings for the two berries such as a summer cocktail and sheep milk cheese. Definitely go to your local Whole Foods and try these new breeds of fruits for yourself.
